Paul Dearlove

Paul is the owner of Step Up 2 Ltd; an innovative training company dedicated to changing the quality of our thinking, the quality and depth of our questioning and challenging our beliefs about what we can achieve.

After leaving school Paul “ran away” to sea and served as a navigating officer in the Merchant Navy. He qualified as a teacher in the 1970’s working with Primary and High school learners.
He worked in the chemical industry as a Training Officer and Development Trainer, leaving his prestigious role in the Chemical Industry in the 1980’s to dedicate his time to personal development through Outdoor Education. He led Denmark’s first Outdoor School, becoming leader and then Director (Training) in 1994. It is now an innovative Centre for adult Learning.
Back in the UK, Paul continued to develop thoughtful and appreciative ways of using the Outdoors in developing co-operative learning, becoming part of the Leadership team of a large LEA Outdoor Education Centre. He introduced and developed P4C and thinking skills in the Outdoors.
In 2003 Paul joined the award winning RAIS * project, bringing with him the ground breaking “Out-SMART” programme of developing thinking and appreciative dialogue in teams. This programme is adopted by settings across the NE of England, Scotland and Norway from Nurseries to Age Concern workers as a means of challenging individual and group thinking for all learners.
He has worked with some key innovators in the field of leading life change, including Anthony Robbins, Bill Martin, Alistair Smith, Jim Cain, John West Burnham, James Nottingham, Robert Dilts and Matt Hudson.
He holds accreditation in P4C, NLP, Coaching, EFT, Appreciative Inquiry, and contributes to Teaching Thinking and Creativity magazine, and The Journal of Appreciative Inquiry Practitioners.
Paul is currently supporting programmes as diverse as; facilitating a Train the Trainer ‘Peer Support’ programme for the NHS and Healthy Schools, Coaching on the Graduate Support Programme for Early Years Practitioners and Coaching parents and practitoners in “self belief” strategies in underachieving areas of the North East of England.
He is also a Director of a Nature Kindergarten in rural Northumberland.
Paul is much sought after as a Self Belief Coach and Trainer.
